Bill Gates Urges Rotarians to Keep up the Fight to Eradicate Polio
In a video message to Rotarians that was played at the recent District 5080 Conference, Bill Gates, cochair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, thanked Rotarians for their hard work in the effort to eradicate polio and congratulated Rotary for surpassing the halfway point in meeting Rotary's US$200 Million Challenge.

"The work you're doing to raise funds for the program is critical, especially given the tight government budgets and increasing costs for a very aggressive polio program," Gates said. "Your work as advocates is also very important. We need to keep this fight high on the world's list of priorities."

Rotary has been a leader in the fight against polio since the launch of the PolioPlus program in 1985. Recently, the Gates Foundation awarded two grants totaling $355 million to Rotary in support of its work in eradicating the disease. In response, Rotary pledged to raise $200 million. To date, Rotary has raised $117.5 million.

Club 21 has raised $17,220.00 specifically targeted for the Gates Challenge Grant to eradicate Polio. Way to go Club 21 Members!

Time to fill up the tank.

Rotary is a wonderful vehicle for service in our community and around the globe. But without our annual donations to Rotary Community Service, (RCS) Inc., there is no fuel in the tank to power our service projects.

Your RCS, Inc., donation funds the work of our Committees - Youth Service, Disabilities, Civic Affairs, International Service and Vocational Service.

Every time a Vocational Service Student is introduced, and I hear the incredible obstacles he or she has overcome to stay in school, I count my blessings and feel good about my RCS, Inc., contribution.

When I listen to the Rotary Minute or read about the tremendous work done by our committees in seeking out the community's greatest needs, stretching dollars and creating partnerships, I am inspired, proud to be a Rotarian, and certain that my RCS, Inc., donation is being used wisely.

Please make your pledge or donation to RCS, Inc., today. Thank you for all that you do and for living out "Service Above Self". President Debbie
