The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund Goal

Rotary Club 21 is just $5,336 short of the $20,000 goal set at the beginning of the Rotary Fiscal Year. Through the Annual Fund - SHARE system, contributions to The Rotary Foundation are transformed into grants that fund local and international humanitarian projects, scholarships, vocational training teams, and more. Club 21 depends on these grants to augment the work of our RCS Committees. Please consider donating to help us reach our goal and continue impacting our community. Every dollar counts!

2025-2026 New Member Impact Award

Congratulations to Kim Hickman, the Outstanding New Rotarian of the Year! In the first six and a half months, Kim joined 4 committees, volunteered at six Rotary events, and regularly attends other Club 21 gatherings. She’s been a Rotarian for years before she joined Rotary. We are fortunate she found her way to our Club (thanks, Tim Sweet)! In recognition of your outstanding Service Above Self, a $600 donation will be made to The Rotary Foundation in Kim's name towards her first Paul Harris Fellow.

5/28/26 Rotary Off the Cuff: Irene Cruite & Joe Bruce

What’s your favorite way to start the day?

Irene: A nice cup of coffee.

Joe: Get up and get the puppies out the door.

What are you looking forward to this summer?

Joe: Getting out, hopefully with my wife, kayaking more than we did last year.

Irene: My brother and his family visiting me from Kenya.

If you could instantly master one skill, what would it be?

Irene: Oh, well, that’s a good one. Instantly? Let’s say maybe flying.

Joe: The piano (laughs & applause...alluding to his piano playing at Rotary today).
Anything else? Flying in space.

What’s an accomplishment you are most proud of?

Joe: My family, my two kids and our grandkids, and marrying Kathy, which was a great decision on my part years ago.

Irene: Bringing up my son and also being a competent doctor.

When did you join Rotary and who/what inspired you to join?

Irene: I joined in April last year, so one year old. I was inspired by Manny (Hochheimer), who was my sponsor. And also, just reading about Rotary and seeing what they do back in Kenya and also here.

Joe: 29 years and 3 months ago. Karen Mobley and I were introduced the same day. And a former member who has passed now, Pat Haskins, was a friend of my father-in-law.

Ryla Nomination

RYLA 2026 is just around the corner, and we have the opportunity to sponsor the next generation of leaders. RYLA is more than a camp. It’s a transformational leadership experience. Participants leave with greater confidence, lifelong friendships, and a deeper connection to service above self. Through hands-on workshops, team challenges, and meaningful conversations, your sponsored candidate will return energized and ready to lead in your community. Know someone who would be a good candidate for RYLA? Email Julie Kelsey at julie@juliekelsey.com to nominate a young leader or to learn more.

Honor Flight Volunteer Opportunity

Inland Northwest Honor Flight honors Veterans who served during wartime. Most Veterans who go on Honor Flight now are Vietnam Veterans.  Spokane 21, via a district grant submission, will fund 13 Veterans to go on Honor Flight on October 13-14. Honor Flight needs guardians to chaperone the Veterans on these flights, and Spokane 21 members are welcome to apply as chaperones for this flight.  If you are interested in being a guardian, you can apply via the following link.
