RCS -PHF – SRF
Pipe down….Class is in session
For those of you who have advanced to Rotary Abbreviations 410, you may be excused. But for those of you who are new to this, or would like a refresher, please continue reading.
We do a lot of Rotary speak here and for some
(you know who you are,) you may have heard these terms but are unsure what they are, what they mean, or how they work. So – here goes.
RCS = Rotary Community Service: This is the fall campaign where we ask for donations to the Rotary Community Service fund. The campaign usually runs from late September until the end of the year. The funds raised for RCS are used by our Committees to provide everything from special equipment for children through the Disability Service committee, helping provide financial help for students through the Vocational Service and Youth Service committees, and making the world a better place thanks to the International Service Committee. Your donations to RCS make all of this possible (there’s still time to contribute if you’d like,
SRF = Spokane Rotary Foundation: The role of the Club 21 Spokane Rotary Foundation Fund is to maintain a self-sustaining pool of funds used to support local community projects. The Rotary Foundation manages a permanent, sustaining endowment that funds the efforts of RCS. Started in 1994, committed Rotary 21 members initiated the foundation with $35,000. The momentum these leaders created encouraged members of Rotary 21 and others to donate and the Foundation quickly grew to more than $125,000 in assets. As of July 2019, Foundation assets were $2,246,983 and during the Rotary year 2019-2020, the Foundation provided $87,500 to RCS.
The Foundation encourages Rotary 21 Club members to donate year-round, and it also welcomes donations from the greater Spokane community. Interested in learning more?

PHF = Paul Harris Fellow: Named after the founder of Rotary, Paul Harris, PHF funds are contributed to the Rotary International Foundation. The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The minimum donation to qualify for a PHF is $1,000 and you must designate your donations to the annual, polio, world, or disaster response funds. The PHF comes with a pin, a certificate, and a warm, fuzzy feeling. PHF recognition time starts in January. Contact the Rotary Office to arrange a PHF donation or
